Delirium is a disturbance of consciousness characterized by acute onset and temporal variability of cognitive abilities, the patient presents with an alteration in the ability to receive, process, store and recall information. The delirium develops in a short period of time (hours or days), it is usually reversible and occurs as a direct consequence of an organic disease or metabolic, use of drugs, the effects of overdose or suspension of a substance, exposure to toxic agents or the whole of these factors. The delirium in critically ill patients may have recently presented cerebral coma, with an intrinsic fluctuations of consciousness.
